Immersium Studio is a team of Pedagogues, Communicators, Technologists and Creatives, specialized in immersive education. We create unique Virtual and Augmented Reality (XR) training experiences, accompanying institutions in the improvement and acceleration of their students or employees training. We are the only european company specialized in immersive interactive 360 video training, and our pedagogical rigour is garantized because of the fact we are a spin-off of the Open University of Catalonia.
We have different experiences in Transversal Skills and/or Healthcare projects. For example, we created a Virtual Reality experience about Effective Communication and Feedback which trains employees in leadership and social and emotional intelligence. We cocreated with the Donation and Transplantation Institute (DTI) the Family Approach VR experience for Transplant Procurement Management students who needs to learn how to communicate bad news to the relatives of a patient and how to effectively proceed to request for organ donation. Also in collaboration with the DTI Institute, we designed and implemented the TPM Journey VR experience to train internationally the internal organization of the organ and tissue transplant and donation Spanish model, which is a reference model in the whole world. We have also created C19-Space VR experience together with the the European Commission and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. More than 20.000 doctors and nurses have experienced this training about basics of Intensive Care Medicine, in order to prepare health workers for possible future waves of COVID. Finally, another relevant project regarding Transversal Skills is the Sustainable Development VR experience that we created for the United Nations System Staff College in order to train political managers to arrive to political, social and economic agreements in terms ecological transition.
Our specialization as XR and pedagogy experts is about combining effective learning approaches such as Active Learning or problem-based learning with the pedagogical benefits of Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality. We create unique trainings materialized in Virtual Reality experiences in which the trainee is the epicenter of the action. In immersive interactive trainings, the student has to make decisions that completely affect the course of the experience, he/she is able to fail, go back, compare the consequences of different decisions, and learn through his/her own mistakes. To be able to fail in training periods is crucial for an effective learning. This is the added value of Virtual Reality education: one mistake in Virtual Reality is one mistake less in reality.
Our role in this project is to design, develop and implement Virtual Reality scenarios based on the knowledge generated during the research phases. We aim to develop interactive scenarios in which the students could apply their knowledge about Transversal Skills before putting them into practice into real life. We know that Learning by Doing is the best pedagogical approach and interactive Virtual Reality is the perfect tool to implement it. With the use of VR 360 video we will provide students with vivential experiences that multiply knowledge retention by four and empathy by two.
