“Transversal skills for humanization of technology for health and social wellbeing” – International Summer School comprises a training offer to health and social care students about transversal skills, especially critical and creative thinking, interpersonal/socio-emotional and citizen-oriented skills and learning to learn. The course will be taught in English and will take place in Barcelona, Spain, between 4 and 8 July 2022.

The Summer School is a 5-day programme based on experimentation of innovative active methodologies  (PBL, simulation, collaborative learning, role-play, gamification and virtual reality). Throughout the sessions, students will carry out activities that  will help them to improve their transversal skills, English competences and internationalization. The training will also include field visits to see and discuss with professionals the role of transversal skills in real workplaces and working environments.

The Summer School is organised in the context of the European project ITSHEC Integration of Transversal Skills into Health and Social care, Higher Education and the Curriculum  – and will involve students from different European Universities: University of Split (UNIST) – Croatia; Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (MUAS) – Finland; Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and Escola Superior d’Infermeria del Mar (ESIMar Nursing School) – both from Spain.

This Summer School is the first stage of a training programme that includes two events: The Summer School in Barcelona, and an intensive Virtual Reality course for undergraduate and graduate students that will be held in October 2022 in Helsinki, Finland. Students who participate in the Summer School activities will receive priority to participate in the Finland programme.

The ITSHEC project aims to improve the training of healthcare and social services professionals in transversal skills throughout the undergraduate and postgraduate training journey. ITSHEC is co-funded by the Erasmus+ project of the European Union.

SUMMER SCHOOL (activity for the lecturers)

Integrated into “Transversal skills for humanization of technology for health and social wellbeing” – International Summer School for students, a capacity building programme will be held for lecturers, teachers, and trainers from participating institutions. The main objective is to train lecturers to guide and accompany students’ transversal skills development using the educational resources created in the project. In addition, lecturers will have the opportunity to be included in the co-creating process and facilitate implementation by detecting lecturers’ needs and difficulties concerning the inclusion of these resources and strategies in their teaching.

Lecturers will be able to follow the implementation of the activities with the students, hold discussion sessions and experiment and design a project using the project tools. This will help to familiarize them with the resources and improve their ability to teach transversal skills.
